GET COMMUNITY FIRST ON THE BALLOT

We need volunteers to collect signatures so Community First Party can get on the ballot in New Hampshire.

Jon Kiper is running for governor under the party banner. These signatures are part of ballot access for the party and the campaign.

The job is simple. You go to a good spot, stand there, talk to people, ask them to sign to help get the party on the ballot, thank them, and keep the form. Then you do it again.

We need 3,000 valid signatures total, with 1,500 from each congressional district. We are trying to collect more than that because some signatures will get thrown out.

Before you go

First, get your forms.

You have two options.

  1. You can print them yourself here.

  2. Or you can pick them up from campaign headquarters. If you want to come by headquarters, let us know ahead of time. We may also have pens, literature, cards, or a shirt for you when you stop by.

The forms are pre-filled with Jon Kiper and Community First Party information. The voter does not need to fill out the whole thing. In most cases, they only need to add their address and sign.

The signature needs to be in ink. Digital signatures do not count, nor do pencil signatures..

Also don’t forget to bring something solid to write on like a clip board.

Where to go

Think high traffic.

The campaign will need to file these forms at the signer’s home town. So you want places where you are likely to see a steady flow of registered New Hampshire voters.

where we recommend

If you do not already have a place in mind, we recommend starting with Walmart or Market Basket.

Those stores tend to have steady foot traffic, which makes signature collection easier.

All you need to do is call the store about 24 hours ahead of time and ask for the manager. Tell them you are collecting signatures for ballot access for Community First Party. Tell them you are not setting up a rally or campaign event. You are there to collect ballot access signatures. At the bottom of this page we list all the phone numbers for all Walmart Stores and Market Baskets in New Hampshire

If you do not want to make that call yourself, talk to us first. Tell us which store you want to go to, what day you plan to be there, and what time you want to go. We can call ahead for you.

alternative recommendations

You do not need permission to collect outside a post office or a liquor store in New Hampshire. Those are also good options, just lower traffic.

You can also use your own event or location. A family gathering, community event, public sidewalk, or another busy local spot may work well. If you have an idea, let us know so we can help you think it through and keep track of where volunteers are going.

Collecting signatures

Who you are looking for

You are asking registered New Hampshire voters to sign.

The form needs a real ink signature. No digital signatures.

Most people only need to add their address and signature. The form already has the campaign information on it.

We need the address because the form goes back to the signer’s town or city office, where the signature gets checked against voter registration.

what you need to do

This part is simple.

Stand in a good spot. Be friendly. Ask the question. Hand them a pen and then the form. Wait while they fill it out. Check the form before they walk away. Thank them. Keep the form. Then move on to the next person. That’s it!

What to say

Respect people’s time with a short intro:

“Hi, would you sign to help get Community First Party on the ballot in New Hampshire?”

If they ask what the form is for, use one of these:

  1. “This is a ballot access form for Community First Party.”

  2. “Jon Kiper is running for governor under the party banner, and we need signatures so the party gets on the ballot.”

  3. “We are collecting signatures so voters have the option to vote for Community First Party in November.”

If they ask what signing means use one of these:

  1. “Signing helps put Community First Party on the ballot.”

  2. “Signing does not sign you up for anything.”

  3. “Signing does not mean you agree with every position. It means you want the party on the ballot.”

If they seem busy keep it even shorter.

  1. “All you need to do is add your address and sign.”

  2. “It takes a minute.”

  3. “We need to keep the form with us, so it has to happen right here.”

When they say “yes”

Hand them the pen right away.

Give them the form.

Let them fill it out.

Wait there while they do it.

One of the field notes for volunteers says the same thing. Put the pen in their hand, keep it quick, and check the form before they leave.

What to check before they leave

Look at the form before they walk away.

Make sure the address is filled in.

Make sure the signature is there.

Make sure the writing is readable.

If something is missing, ask them to finish it before they go.

What not to do

Do not leave forms with people.

Do not ask people to mail forms back later.

Do not count on people to drop forms off on their own.

Do not let someone walk away before you look at the form.

The form should stay with you from start to finish.

Don’t forget to thank them for their time.

When you're done

Keep the forms with you and get them back to us as soon as you can.

You can bring them back to campaign headquarters, bring them to an event or meetup, or mail them back if needed.

After that, let us know where you went and how it went. That helps us keep track of which locations people are covering and helps us avoid sending multiple volunteers to the same place at the same time.

If you are in Discord, post there. If not, text Jon directly.

If you plan to go back to the same location again, let us know first.
